AMEE’S STORY

Already a busy family of 5, along came a surprise to make it 6. The 8th July 2016 Jude was born a healthy 7lb 4oz, 6 weeks early. Exciting times ahead, Joe, Phoebee and Reuben visited with daddy. Jude came home on day 3 and then our lives were turned upside down. Jude stopped feeding, was grey in colour and lethargic. Rushed onto our local hospital we were told he was very unwell, transferred from St Richards (Chichester) to QA (Portsmouth), Dr's weren't sure what was happening, they knew his body was going into organ failure. After being told to prepare for his passing, he was baptised, and we had to explain to the children. Jude fought.

Jude’s strength allowed for another transfer to Southampton neonatal. Two weeks of more investigation, told to prepare again for the worst. Intubated, pumped with so many meds, he had caught an enterovirus (common cough or cold), resulting in encephalitis, sepsis and the onset of epilepsy.

Jude continued to be a warrior; he is our miracle. He fought; he is a case study for SGH. He was diagnosed with diplegic Cerebral Palsy and evolving epilepsy. He sustained a substantial brain injury. He is developmentally delayed with visual and hearing problems. He is non-verbal, can't walk or sit. Feeding posed a problem and his epilepsy continues to pose problems.

Jude had a peg to help with medicines and feeding when ill.

All three children were thrown into the unknown whilst Jude stayed in hospital for 8 weeks, daddy (Tom) ran the house and kept the children going as it happened over the summer holidays. Along with nanny and gramps. I, mummy (Amee) stayed by Jude’s side. This exciting news, of a new sibling had been extremely stressful and confusing to three young children:4,5 and 6.

The children have to watch Jude stay in hospital frequently and for long periods of time, along with countless amounts of appointments. Community nurses and careers coming in and out of the house.

The opportunity to be nominated for a holiday was a dream come true. They all take on so much that this, would allow them freedom and to be children, have fun without worrying. Meet with others. Jennies Children's Trust welcomed us with open arms. It was nice to be in surroundings so peaceful and full of adventure. A friendly and truly amazing bunch of people. Much loved holiday by the children. Unfortunately, Jude was taken ill after a major seizure, however Claire and her family were very attentive to Tom and the children. We Thank you so much.

Love to all.
